Zimbra, which is an ajax based web 2.0ish email software, has formally married Ubuntu. This partnership will now all the Linux loving geeks to get their hands on this extremely well coded and user friendly email client.
Zimbra’s announcement of the partnership with Ubuntu’s parent company Canonical has come hot on the heels of the LinuxWorld Conference that is going to take place this week.
Although Ubuntu users could well use Zimbra since last year, the new partnership will make Zimbra available in the Ubuntu Partner Repository, which will enable easy access to Yahoo Mail, Gmail, AOL Mail and any other email service that uses IMAP and POP protocols in both online and offline mode.
In addition to the normal emailing features, Zimbra offer a rich set of integrations with Flickr, Amazon.com and Yahoo Maps. Online and Offline email and calendar access is the only area where Yahoo has been able to triumph Google, thanks to its acquisition of Zimbra.
Commenting on the occasion Andy Pflaum, senior director of business management for Yahoo’s Zimbra division said:
Since we first announced general availability of Zimbra for Ubuntu last year, we have seen incredible adoption within the Ubuntu community. We are eager to offer our world-class collaboration experience, Yahoo Zimbra Desktop, to the vibrant community of Ubuntu users worldwide
