Youtube has announced some major breakthroughs in their quest to earn some revenues from the video sharing site. First in line is the partnership with some major content producers. These partners have signed in to get their content syndicated across the sites of publishers who are willing to display video ads on their sites.
The content partners include Broadbandtv, Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, and The Orchard. Broadbandtv programming will include hit shows from Fashion, Celebrity News, Sports, Technology, Comedy and Travel. CBC on the other hand is Canada’s leading public broadcaster and its content is now available on Youtube the way Canadians want to consume it. The Orchard is a leading digital media company that specializes in digital music, video, new media and branding services. Some popular shows from The Orchard like Gumbly, Mr. Bill, My Favorite Martian would be available on Youtube immediately. To have a detailed look at all the videos currently available on Youtube for syndication, just visit the Youtube Featured Video Ad Solutions Gallery.
In order to choose a content provider to serve their videos on your site, just visit their youtube username by visiting their channel and then paste this username in the "Channel" field of your content unit. If this seems complicated you can watch the Getting Started video below.

In addition to this, Youtube video ad units are now being supported within the 728×90 and 160×600 pixel formats of AdSense. So if you want to serve video ads on your site, you would have to choose from these two possibilities. Each ad unit sports five video thumbnails. As soon as a user clicks on any of the thumbnail a full size video viewer expands alongside the ad unit.
Publishers can get paid on both CPC or CPM basis. The video ads are currently supported for only the English and Japanese language accounts and are served in the following regions:
Australia, Canada, France, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, New Zealand, Poland, Spain, United Kingdom, United States
I personally think that this ad unit was a must have for all the podcasters out there. Robert Scoble must be kicking with excitement. However, the timing of the feature announcement coincides almost perfectly with the U.S. court judgement ordering Youtube to hand over its user details to Viacom. The morons at Viacom will feel even greedier after this.
