Our comments and trackback policy You Link We Follow, You Comment We Promote
The idea of monetizing YouTube has been seriously thought over by Google for quite some time especially since analysts tipped in stating that YouTube can generate a figure of $500 million with display ads. In a bid to put this to practice (in one way) YouTube has introduced click-to-buy links below videos.
With a lot of revenue that Google spends maintaining the site for the massive usage of bandwidth, Google can definitely use YouTube to generate healthy revenue, given the large number of users the online video platform has. Google Blog post reads:
Users can click-to-buy products — like songs and video games — related to the content they’re watching on the site. We’re getting started by embedding iTunes and Amazon.com
The Links are to AmazonMP3 and iTunes where users can easily download a particular song. The idea comes to practice as an answer to the user comments that often ask of the artist or a song’s name; where they can get to download it. The links below certain videos are non-obtrusive as they are neatly placed beneath the player along with other community features.
With this, Google promises to expand further the promising e-commerce platform that benefits users and partners alike. Although these links aren’t a great stride to implement the monetizing model for YouTube, but they show how serious Google is about bringing business to it (revenue).
The service is currently available for the U.S alone with eventual expansion worldwide to follow soon. Google definitely has plans at expanding the current model with more content and product partners with plans to target the international market at the earliest.

We believe it could be a lot more profitable and viral, if they were to use our video monetization platform, where users layer affiliate products over videos, and earn click and sales commissions whenever viewers engage in shopping on these “SpreeVideos”. Plus we remunerate distributors, which helps videos become more viewed and more viral.
