YouTube has been dominant in the online Video business but somehow it hasn’t capitalized on this value it has; we are talking about monetizing and minting cash on its present value, putting to use the gargantuan userbase it has to generate revenue. It has somehow realized what it had been missing all this time and in a bid to overcome all this YouTube now appears different.
Different doesn’t mean we are talking about a change in layout, but seeing (finally) some sponsors making it up with their ads. Google had been trying to squeeze out some cash by putting up ads in the videos being watch (start, middle, end and where not) but the idea of giving space to sponsors on the homepage makes revenue generation easier and worth while.
Michael Learmonth reports of advertisers lining up for the ad space as YouTube plans to alter it in order to accommodate a new banner ad said to line the entire width of the page. Now given the number of hits YouTube gets daily, the vast majority of them end up directly to the videos/provided links instead of the homepage and for that YouTube has set up the rates that evaluate to $200,000 a day. But that is not going to remain stagnant here; the prices are set to soar given the hits per day YouTube generates.
Google’s habit of keeping ads out of its premium and most successful services has been there since the beginning and one wonders why it avoids monetizing when it can in the easiest way. And more importantly I wonder how come it avoids all these ad campaigns yet manages to remain standing as the giant in every way possible. The news hasn’t been confirmed by YouTube and all that has been said is:
We do not comment on rumors and speculation…
