image208 Yahoo (to) rolls out a new more open homepage; still running for testsThe last update for Yahoo came last year and since then there have been bits and pieces being added along with integration of various elements from the third parties including Yahoo’s own, Buzz. The current updates come regarding Yahoo offering a few of its users a much better and more personalized homepage. With the redesign Yahoo hopes to increase visits and usage of the utilities it provides.

The new layout offers users a dashboard that enables them to access various applications and get reported on the most recent activity. These included having access to their emails at AOL, Gmail and Yahoo, and getting notifications over other networks like eBay, Flickr, etc.

The page hasn’t been officially put out for the general public and is said to be currently under a watch to bring it out with more dramatic changes. But I guess Yahoo wouldn’t just toss out everything it has in a flash and will take some time to actually let users know and see all the updates that have been made. A statement from the company mentioned:

To help people make sense of what’s happening in their world, we’re redefining the concept of a ‘start page’ away from either a broadcast view (Yahoo.com) or a personal view only (My Yahoo), and creating a homepage that blends the best of both approaches to deliver relevance for a mass market.

There has been a shift in recent activity across Yahoo as most of the traffic has been sucked up by various other services, including social networks, etc. But Yahoo still remains the most visited site on the Web with over 314 million monthly visits (ComScore report for July). The new page can very well increase the amount of activity with the interactive new look and a whole lot of features within an easy access.

Users can come across the test site at random and the date for thee final launch is yet to be known. But the current step to let outside developers hop in and be a part of Yahoo Open Strategy might just tick thee right spot and offer much more to its huge audience.
