When everything else is making news about Yahoo, it tries to slip attention by quietly pulling the plug on Geocities. The free web hosting service had been acquired by Yahoo in 1999 for $2.87 billion and it’s sad that one of the web’s oldest commodities would vanish in the wink of an eye. Although the site had been losing following over the last couple of years. I still remember when a teacher once referred Geocities for me to explore and learn how it works, that was as early as 2000, I didn’t write a word on that when it was in its prime and now here I am reporting its demise. Hope my teacher reads this one.
