Yahoo released a preview version for OneConnect, its new application for the iPhone that enables users to put all activities from social networking to communication at one place. The purpose is plain, to accelerate past competitors like Google by having more applications for mobile devices.
There had been attempts by Yahoo previously to thwart Google’s dominance, with the introduction of services like OneSearch against the countless present in Google’s armory. About OneConnect, EVP Yahoo Connected Life, Marco Boerries commented:
OneConnect allows everybody to keep connected to the persons they care about. It’s a socially connected address book.
OneConnect offers you a full-featured phonebook that enables integration of contacts from various social networks and iPhone plus stay updated on any new activity taking place; from status updates to new pictures being uploaded. Other features include:

The more important feature is the single platform for instant messaging, email and SMS. Users are relieved of the task of visiting numerous platforms/services to avail these features. Overall the new platforms looks to be a good move by Yahoo to step into the race of applications for the countless mobile devices and win loyalty of users that are quickly migrating to the new medium of communication.
