Despite the crash and burn of Yahoo’s stocks, from low to lowest ever in the last half decade, Yahoo continues to try out new things and the latest comes with the alteration in design of Yahoo News.
The new design appears far more filled up to the eyes compared to the old empty and hollow one. The changes aren’t major except that the page has become a lot wider, meaning there is less white space on either side of the page and the switching of color combination in the tabs.
However the most important features that have been introduced include the section for the most blogged stories that is powered by Buzz Tracker, a Techmeme like service that was acquired by Yahoo in the recent past. Amit Agarwal had the information first up and there are ways in which this new page can be accessed as he mentions.
The page can be accessed by simply replacing the‘s’ in the URL for any news with the word ‘story’ and the new version for the same age is displayed.
Old version: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080907/ap_on_hi_te/satellite_launch
New version: http://news.yahoo.com/story/ap/20080907/ap_on_hi_te/satellite_launch
We have no clue whether Yahoo is planning an all out launch of the new version or is it up for a test that we have luckily got our hands at. What ever this be, the newer site looks much better.
