ComScore has released the Japanese search engine rankings for the month of September, 2008. Yahoo has topped the list with 51.2% of the overall search market followed by Google with 39% market share. According to managing director of comScore Japan, Maru Sato:
The search market in Japan is dominated by Yahoo! and Google, which combine for more than 90 percent of the market.
Other players in the search market include both local Web properties, such as Rakuten, NTT and Mixi, and other American brands, such as Microsoft and Amazon.
Google dominates the U.S. market but the story in Japan is totally different.
