Yahoo has been up and trying to improve its search business ever since its launch four years back. With services like SearchScan and Search Assist that help users to filter out their search and protect them from malicious sites. Yahoo also launched SearchMonkey, a tool that helps users customize and enhance their search experience along with Boss.
The basic idea of the above features was to help improve the search and rise to the challenge to Google’s domination. That’s quite a lot of new features to help boost Yahoo but the team thinks otherwise, stating;
we don’t think that’s enough. So today we’re launching an integrated, nationwide, on and offline marketing campaign to remind the rest of the world (or at least everyone in the United States) that it’s time to give Yahoo! Search a try.
And for that purpose, Yahoo has decided to feature display ads as well as including radio ads on various programs. The idea assures users of finding exactly what they search for at Yahoo Search. However the idea to allure users into using their search isn’t much helpful, users go for the best option when it comes to performing search and more importantly one that gives them better results. Google search may very well be too plain with results so many that a user has chances of getting lost, but it has gained confidence over time. With over 626 million monthly uniques, Google definitely has a strong bone for Yahoo to crush whose number has declined by 3.4% to 231 million.
It’s good Yahoo is doing something to show that the brains behind it are still working. However introducing such add-ups doesn’t guarantee what Yahoo needs most; users and the major issue that would keep them away is that they are now accustomed to Google over the years. Let’s not sound too pessimistic and wait to see how much success can Yahoo muster with this step.
