Yahoo has come out with an enhancement to ease search for its users and ridding them of the need to go their Search Gallery for adding the most common features, namely; Yelp, Yahoo! Local and LinkedIn. Yahoo Gallery that showcases all the useful SearchMonkey applications is the brainchild of developers, owners and Yahoo. The current step has made the above three services available for all users.
According to the blog; the step had previously been postponed as such an action requires access to the site’s structured data via data feed or semantic markup along with how broadly the application has been used. In order to figure out how an application would affect user metrics, a small proportion of users are allowed to have a ‘default-on’ experience to analyze how it alters their usage. The application selected at present are among the first partners to share structured data. Amit Kumar, Director, Product Management, Yahoo! Search added:
In addition to testing a “default on” treatment, we also tested giving users the ability to add the LinkedIn Enhanced Result directly from the search results page. We’ll continue to use this treatment as another way to promote high quality SearchMonkey apps to users.
The results for this had been pretty positive with a reported 15% increase in the click-through rates. The users also had an option to add LinkedIn Enhanced Result from the search page, all this to promote more SearchMonkey apps to its users.
The addition of these applications by default has been specifically done to improve and make search experience enhanced and fruitful for the users. That added with the ‘share with friends’ feature makes sharing even easier. The sharing can be easily done by clicking on the envelope that appears at the right side of the result.
The step taken here would definitely add more to user experience and appear more inviting to the users as they have most major services set as default. Let’s see what feedback does the present action get from the users. It ought to get some positive, hasn’t Yahoo saved us of the loads of work we had to do at adding them individually?
