We had earlier reported that Yahoo was to announce two more members to the Yahoo Board of Directors. We had reported about the nominees and the scales being tipped in at Frank J. Biondi and John H. Chapple. There had been a lot of drama behind this as well; ever since Icahn had been spitting fire at the board and all the way to compromising with the board and then avoiding the shareholders meeting which was a pretty big turn off for almost everyone.
Yahoo has now confirmed the selection of Frank J. Biondi, Jr. and John H Chapple to its Board of directors, pretty much as had been anticipated. Yahoo Chairman, Roy Bostock commented saying:
We are pleased to add people of Frank’s and John’s caliber to our board. Frank’s extensive experience in the entertainment and media industries, combined with John’s deep management experience in telecommunications, will provide valuable perspectives to our already diverse board. We look forward to working with them as our board continues its ongoing efforts to enhance stockholder value.
Now I personally think that the way things are with Yahoo and board, I won’t call I ‘diverse’ but ‘divided’ especially how the counts for ‘No’ votes turned out. Yahoo! Co-founder and CEO Jerry Yang (the man who barely misses action of any sort) added:
No other company in the Internet space has our unique combination of a global brand, the industry’s best talent, innovative technologies and exceptional assets; strengths we believe will help us take advantage of the opportunities we see ahead. I look forward to working together with Frank, John, and the rest of our board to continue the progress we’ve made on our strategy to be the starting point for the most Internet users, a must buy for the most advertisers, and to develop the world’s most open platforms.
Yet again, I guess that it is this ‘diverse’ group which had Yahoo growing like a mammoth and then tumbling to all these conflicts presently.
Both Frank Biondi and John Chapple enjoy a reputation of being success generators. Biondi had served on various positions at different firms which include, WaterView Advisors LLC to Amgen Inc. and Cablevision Systems Corporation, Hasbro, Inc.
John Chapple enjoys similar background of positions from President to the CEO of firms that include Hawkeye Investment LLC to McCaw Cellular Communications.
Let’s just hope that the two add some fuel to boost Yahoo up with their expertise.
