After failing to take the lead with its first launch in Japan, Microsoft’s Xbox 360 three years back, it is finally gripping the market. This was definitely due to the PS3 doing big business in the country and the brand took some serious denting as GM of Microsoft’s Japan division Takashi Sensui stated:
It put the brand in a sort of black-list in consumer’s minds. Anything related to that brand was not relevant to them
The reason for the failure could have been the lack of games that Japanese gamers find engaging. Microsoft did make some moves by hiring developers from the country to create something that appeals to them. Games like Infinite Undiscovery, Tales of Vesperia are a few to have won users for the Xbox360. You cant put the blame on Microsoft as many others have failed to make an impact on the Japanese market.
