The Windows 3.x that marked the beginning of a new era in operating system in the early part of 1990 has at last come meet its end. Microsoft put down issuing licenses for the aged software on November 1, 2008, bringing an end to the era spread to almost two decades.
The Graphic User Interface it brought forward for the personal computers might look absurd when compared to the modern one but it revolutionized the concept of computing. Something that not only brought more customization to the computers, with ability to add graphic, sound cards and other hardware but also had Microsoft establish its position as the world leader in Operating System.
Well that chapter may very well close but Windows 3.x will always stand out and remind us of how exactly the mega Windows evolved to what they are or will be in the future. Many might still be using the aged version of Windows but sadly enough it doesn’t offer the level of security one needs to counter threats from the Internet. But hey, you can always have it running on some old machine, just to step back in time.
