If you’ve used Microsoft Popfly or Yahoo! Mash, you’ll know what widgenie is about when they let you plug in data from various sources ( NOTE: the ‘wide variety’ only has excel and csv files support for now and other online services are coming soon! ). You can create powerful visualizations easily, and then share the end widget anywhere you can through javascript. Widgenie is a division of LogiXML, leading business intelligence vendor that is innovating the use of Web 2.0 technologies in the business intelligence space.
Each widgenie is a powerful widget created by you to visualize and share information. This can be things like a table, pie chart, bar chart, line chart, and many more choices to come.
For now you can do a lot with your excel and csv files and make different types of widgets with them to display your data. You can also check the stats of your widgets usage and views, and use different widget types to display your data. Tutorials are provided which are more then helpful as well as certain case studies. Also, the FAQ is very helpful. And although we expected to see forums, the ‘Inside The Lamp’ community is nothing more then a FAQ page.
A catch I found with this was:
Q. Will there be a charge to work with a data feed partner?
A. There may be charges for some data in the future.
Unless it offers anything way better then Popfly, which lets you create games, widgets and sidebar gadgets, all for free, (and is very expandable by developers and non developers alike) we don’t see it beating them at their game. But for what it does at the moment, it does well. Worth a try.
Update : Christy from Widgenie has just informed us via email that the “Inside the Lamp� Community, is now complete with not only the FAQ page, but a news page, video page, blog, forums, as well as “featured widgets�. Do check it out!
I have to say, very accurate description. However the Inside the Lamp community was just added today, so the “mere FAQ page” has been replace with a forum, blog, and more!
