The free online music startup, Muxtape, has been shut down due to its conflict with RIAA (Recoding Industry Association of America). (Recording Industry Association of America) has been involved in a number of cases in the U.S. related to file sharing. The homepage of the website reads:
Muxtape will be unavailable for a brief period while we sort out a problem with the RIAA.
The actual reason for the service outage is still unknown but according to Muxtape’s official blog:
No artists or labels have complained. The site is not closed indefinitely. Stay tuned.
Beta users of Muxtape For Bands: you are unaffected by this outage.
If no one from the industry has any issues with the New York based startup then what is bugging RIAA? Maybe it is their job to create fuss and screw artists and companies. A lot of people may not know that every case RIAA files, is not won actually because those cases don’t get much media attention. There are cases where they have to see the face of defeat but the interesting thing is that they admit they were wrong. Take the case of Atlantic Vs Tanya Anderson, which took over 3 years and in the end RIAA had to drop the case with prejudice. They also had to pay the legal fees and cost incurred during that time period in accordance with the copyright law. Foster case was similar to this one.
Lets hope that they really have some issue this time because if there isn’t any, then there is a very strong chance that Muxtape is going to hit back.
