Wetpaint has announced the launch of a new messaging feature that allows users to collaborate in private. The demand for such a feature was overwhelming and Wetpaint finally listened. Messages can now be send from one user to another, from one user to many users and from many users to many users. With the release of this messaging feature Wetpaint becomes the first wiki to offer such collaboration making a giant leap towards becoming a socially networked system.

Wetpaint boosts around 300,000 wikis, up from 200,000 in February. This translates to 1700 wikis being created per day which is really a huge amount by any count. We don’t have the registered user stats, but that would certainly be a multiple of wikis created till now.

In early February, Wetpaints introduced widgets into their system allowing users to add third party components like Youtube videos, Flickr photos and so on into Wetpaint Wikis.

The company raised $9.5 million in Series B Funding in Jan from Accel Partners, with early investors Trinity Ventures and Frazier Technology Ventures also participating in the round. This round brought the total amount raised by Wetpaint to $14.75 million.
