Vodafone Group PLC and Western Union may partner together a test to enable users to transfer money via cell phones. The test will be conducted with customers sending money from Kenya to Britain to subscribers of Safaricom, the Kenyan mobile carrier. Vodafone already has 40% stakes in Safaricom and it already operates mobile payment service, M-Pesa. Nick Hughes, Vodafone’s head of international mobile payments stated:
Our partnership with Western Union allows M-Pesa subscribers to receive international remittances and builds on the demand we have already seen domestically in Kenya.
