Just saw this in my Windows Live Messenger contacts window. The box beneath the display picture one. It’s the first time I’ve seen this, and I have no idea why. I couldn’t find anything on it on the official Windows Live Messenger Blog and even Liveside. Seems like it’s a placeholder for some image though it shows none. Anybody got any info on this?

The placeholder seems to be to enable you to start or stop your contact’s webcam.
It appears to have a webcam icon next to the ‘blank’ placeholder … if there is a webcam at the contact’s end of things. If there is no webcam, then the placeholder appears as your does (above).
Strange … new to my MSN Live Messenger too.

Yes, Darren, it’s very strange as it has appeared out of no where without any updates/notifications or any prior announcement. I’m still trying to find out why it’s there.

It’s not a placeholder for the webcam, i see it on contacts with and without a webcam. The webcam image is there, too.

The webcam image has been there for a while. Did you try reinstalling / chatting to a different contact with a webcam?
