Viacom Partners With Yahoo, Dumps Google In Search Advertising

Viacom has announced a multi-year search advertising deal with Yahoo for 33 of its Internet sites. The partnership covers broadband sites for Viacom’s MTV, VH1, Comedy Central and Nickelodeon networks and could expand to more than 140 additional sites worldwide.

Viacom has placed the bet on Yahoo’s Panama project that was launched in Feb this year. The project is really in its infancy for such a large corporation like Viacom to embrace it. However some think that Viacom is seriously angry with Google after the revenue sharing talks for the videos hosted on Youtube ended bitterly and is doing all this to hurt Google. Ever since then Viacom has continued to haunt Google first with a massive DMCA take down notice to 100,000 videos on Youtube, then with a $1 billion law suit accusing Google of failing to protect its copyrighted content, and now finally a partnership with rival Yahoo. Viacom has also signed a content deal with Joost, an IPTV startup.

There are no revenue guarantees in this deal, which is quiet uncommon in large partnerships like these. Yet another reason to believe Viacom is doing all this to bring Google to its knees.
