ValleyWag axes 3 employees; obeys Denton’s plans (commands)

image-thumb20 ValleyWag axes 3 employees; obeys Denton’s plans (commands)We had earlier reported about Nick Denton’s memo that stated cutting short the Gawker Media staff by 19 members owing to the ongoing economic crisis. In his memo Nick mentioned about freezing bonus payments of its content writers and using the savings to increase the basic pay for each.

There was another interesting thing he mentioned and that was hiring 10 new people for its commercially profitable sites. The idea must have been to juice out more and more revenue with by hammering more content a those sites. These measures had been taken presently only for the say (not the staff cutting thought which will see immediate action) and will be implemented next year on for the first quarter at least.

However panic has struck a partner site and in order cut the burden off ValleyWag has announced that it has shown the door to three of its members, namely Nicholas Carlson and Jackson West (both associate editors) and reporter Melissa Gira Grant.

So that  just leaves Paul Boutin and Owen Thomas would continue running ValleyWag in the meantime. Well its business and Denton has shown his firmness over the matter and has been pretty straightforward about the matter. Our sympathies  with those who have been asked to leave and prayers that they have something better waiting for them.
