Domains by Text is a very basic service that lets you check for any domain name using your mobile to find out if it’s available or not. It works using GoDaddy, Register.com and Network Solutions. It works by two methods, one is text messaging and the other is through a phone call.
- You can either send a text message to 41411 that starts with BIZNAME
- You can call Jott and say “Domain Search”
You’ll get your reply and a code to retrieve that name if it’s available. Using that code you can then go to Domains by Text website and enter that code to buy the domain. The basic idea is to provide you an easy and fast way to claim a domain name for any idea you might get, when you’re away from your computer or the Internet.
Novel idea. For us the main use case was rapid-fire command-line checking, and we got tired of whois taking too long and printing too much output.
