I can digest Apple turning down developers and their apps for one reason or the other, but reading this that Twitter is trying to do the same. Presently the micromessaging service has shut down StatTweets, which provided sports fans with scores and updates. The updates came from StatSheet, the site developed by the same person, Robbie Allen. The issue highlighted by Twitter is that Allen and his wife created around 650 accounts, one for each team and Twitter thought they were spamming. If they were, I am surprised how come more than 60,000 people followed them altogether? Also each account only provided information for one particular team. I am very much surprised reading this. If that is so each of the accounts for numerous Blogs be deleted and thought of to be spammers since each writer markets the posts on blogs. Even though they belong to individuals, which is also the case with StatTweets; each account is for one team. What ever the reason that Twitter is using to justify this action, it needs to pay some respect to the developers who are equally responsible for Twitter’s success.

This is a bit disturbing. I wonder what the threshold is for becoming a spammer? 650 is a bunch of accounts, but I think twitter should consider the point of those accounts. It couldn’t take much time to figure out they have a legitimate purpose.

Exactly.. but I guess Twitter had done its homework and decided to shut it down. The purpose is pretty clear that each of the account represented an individual team. It rather made things easier for fans to get updates about teams they are fan of.
