Of recent, anyone looking to attract social media traffic on their websites is acquiring Twitter integrations – making it somewhat dated. Amidst people making use of this service, Covestor released an integration yesterday which could just be handy for you, especially if you’re one of those active traders’ in the stock market.

Covestor is a joint venture of Union Square Ventures, Spark Capital and Amadeus Capital Partners. Also having a strategic investment from Independent News and Media Group.

  • Covestor is a portfolio sharing service for proven self-investors, and for those wishing to track them.
  • Where tens of thousands of self directed investors share their real trades and you can follow then live for free.
  • Where all data is private, secure and anonymous.

The functionality of Covestor is as such that the service lets you hook up your online-brokerage account to it, so you can keep an eye on your performance record and that of the market too. You can also see the who’s who amongst traders (most successful traders) and follow up on activities of other users (buying, selling, etc).

With this Twitter add-on, you can receive these notifications in real-time, and since Covestor is hooked up to your brokerage account, you get authenticated services.

Although, technically speaking Twitter notifications aren’t of much importance, but it is an interesting development for the online investor’s community which could give a high boost to Covestor and propel it into further mainstream adoption. It could also be interesting to see if Covestor could keep up with the constant up and down move of stocks (as recommendations of Wall Street analysts move stocks instantly) – as trades are broadcast in real-time on Twitter.

It reflects on the days of IRC, where traders would congregate in chat rooms and create a flurry of buy/sell activities on likes of Iomega, and Imclone. Of course, Covestor has an upper hand to that of chat rooms, such as having better authentication.
