What exactly is the micro-messaging service, Twitter evolving into?? The news breaker for sure and that too the fastest, how did it do that? It was the first to report of the earthquakes and now people received instant information about NASA confirming that Phoenix Mars Lander has found water.
MG Siegler seems to be keeping a close eye at this new found use of Twitter as he reports of the news being no where over the major news channels, but all over Twitter when a Twitter Search query is made.
This has resulted in the news spreading far more quickly across the places making everyone look beyond the actual purpose these services have been made for. There has been enough hype already about the issue that now seems to be more of a reality than just a myth. William Boynton, lead scientist for the Thermal and Evolved-Gas Analyzer instrument on Phoenix said:
We’ve seen evidence for this water ice before in observations by the Mars Odyssey orbiter and in disappearing chunks observed by Phoenix last month, but this is the first time Martian water has been touched and tasted..
This has resulted in extension of the mission till September 30.
What it appears to me is Twitter being an essential part of a journalist’s kit, for it provides an immediate access to an endless chain of readers worldwide, giving the information and letting it organically spread; something that’s the main objective of every reporting channel. I won’t bee surprised if I see a journalist using Twhirl, Twitter or FriendFeed instead of their cell phones etc to deliver any breaking news.
