Tweetake backups your tweets for you, well not really

Bilal Hameed

tweetake-thumb Tweetake backups your tweets for you, well not really Tweetake is a new twitter app that lets back up your twitter followers, friends, tweets and everything else that you may have on twitter. Well, actually this is not what the reality is, the service actually asks for your twitter userid and password and than lets you download your tweets, friends and followers onto your own hard drive.

That’s that, it does not maintain a copy of all these things on their own servers. Although the service eases the task of backing up your things on twitter and essentially makes it a one click process, it is not of much use since users are lousy and wont backup their tweets on a regular basis. This will actually have similar affects as would have been the case if twitter looses your data.

The reasons specified by Alfred Armstrong and Nikki Pilkington to create Tweetake are:

  • Twitter may lose followers again like it did in June / July
  • You may change your Twitter name and want to re-follow the people you were following, and contact the people who were following you
  • You may want to refer to a Tweet that you sent more than 90 days ago (the longest twitter keeps Tweets for)
  • You may just like backing things up, ‘just in case’, like us :)

I wonder if twitter is so unreliable even in terms of storage that you need to do something about it yourself. Yes, we know their capabilities when it comes to fighting spam.

By the way, if you like our content you can add us on twitter.
