Muxtape might have died down but it did inspire many to rise up and carry on with the idea or should I say Muxtape Legacy. We are talking about Tumbltape, a service launched for Tumblr to become its Muxtape for the good of it.
It does nothing worth giving it a flashing welcome to the scene or sing songs off praise, the purpose is to build a tool that creates a playlist of songs from users’ tumblelog. And it makes sure your playlist stays up-to-date as you upload new songs to your log.
So that means you can simply add songs to your log and let Tumbltape do the rest; i.e. update your playlist. And that’s not it, Tumbltape also gives you some relief as it automatically figure out artists’ name and the track information that is based on what you have written in your post and if you are in no mood to test Tumbltape’s intelligence feel free to fill in the artist and track info on your own. As they boast about their system on the homepage:
Our system does a pretty good job at figuring out the artist and track name from the text in your audio post. But you can specify artists and track titles yourself. When you upload a song on your tumblelog, click the “advanced” button and enter a tag like tt:artist name - track name, to have us skip a song enter tt:skip.
I personally think that its not going to last for a long time, well that shouldn’t be surprising as RIAA and the likes are sniffing such services and the nose might soon sniff Tumbltape out and have it pulling off all the hype it’s trying to create.
The tool might very well come handy for regular Tumble enthusiasts, definitely has nothing to offer me and my likes.
