According to the report only half of TubeMogul’s users are actually monetizing their videos and the ones who are doing so are generating an average CPM of $12.39.

TubeMogul’s report has been a response to Alley Insider’s query as to how many of TubeMogul’s 12,000 users who have been publishing videos on multiple platforms are actually making a buck or a dime out of it.

Interesting fact about the report is that, if web video could be so effectively monetized, why is the other half of TubeMogul’s users never thought about doing something with their work. According to TubeMogul:

Worth pondering are the 48.4% surveyed that do not monetize their videos at all, despite ubiquitous revenue-sharing programs that are easy and costless to join. Many of these people commented that their videos are ads (i.e. movie previews or corporate-seeded viral videos), or they are putting out their content for fun (i.e. family videos).

It’s pretty obvious that this study was limited in its accuracy and scope particularly because it only represented 12,000 users, which are a mix of big media companies like CBS, marketing and ad agencies and independent creators. In addition to this there were a lot of people who didn’t knew what the heck CPM and monetization stands for. Nevertheless, some findings is better than none at all.
