Finally! something really worth mentioning in Pakistan for the Web 2.0. I have been complaining a lot about how the events need to be planned and what exactly they should be focused more on. Late, very late but a very important move to bring out a startup from Pakistan by our countrymen.

Welcome Face2Face, the application bringing proximity base social networking. I have had a conversation about this with Umer Umair Aziz late last year and I was impressed by the idea, today the global launch with an event worth mentioning. What’s best about it? It a cross platform social network, removing the need for you to register yourself on a new social site and runs on almost all existing smartphones. From the iPhone, Android to Nokia’s standard Symbian and the J2ME, which pretty much means all devices out there.

What to do if you have no such expertise? Many would simply Google best free photo editing software to get the right thing, but for now you can try Pictures4Fun, a startup that lets you easily apply effects to your photos.

Adding effects is quite essential for it makes good pictures appear even better and more importantly not many folks out there really aren’t photogenic, all the more reason to apply effects and appear better. Photos4Fun doesn’t really get you all those tools that can help you to appear as the next Miss World or super handsome hunk, but it can at least satisfy your age old ambition to be featured on billboards, covers of magazines or what not.

I mean more than three fourth of the world believes in the life hereafter in one way or the other, therefore there needs to be one to honor the dead. Memorial.gov.hk is the initiative taken in Hong Kong to pay homage to the beloved departed souls socially.

The site has been created, oddly enough by the Hong Kong Food and Environment Hygiene Department and cost them around $128,000. The department also oversees public cemeteries in the region.

I was looking to a buy a motorbike for conveyance earlier and had to go through a lot of real search, roaming the markets to find the right thing. Especially because I was looking for a second hand model. I couldn’t find one helpful site that was interactive enough to help me with finding the right thing in Pakistan. I guess many face these issues and usually come across substandard, spammy forums. Motors.pk, however rises above the norms to provide, at least a neat interface to begin with.

It isn’t anything close to CarDomain or others in the category, but when it comes to Pakistan, it is a big step forward. The idea is to provide car or bike lovers a place to sell and buy automobiles. I remember talking to Ludovic Gaudé, CEO about Zokem, the Finnish startup that provided the app for your mobile to share your activity with connections. The application on your smartphone turned your activity on the phone and had it distributed using its on device sensor technology. You could be listening to music, trying to call in your friend or playing a game, whatever you did was on the main site being recorded and shared.

Arctic Startup reports that the startup has raised a healthy 2 Million Euros in funding and has adopted a new methodology to grip how consumers use their mobiles. Called the Zokem 360°, it enables the technology to better grip user activity on the phones and make it more useful for anyone who can utilize data. My only problem when I used the application was that it had too much control of the information I shared and honestly, it tracked a lot of my behaviour.
