Has anyone noticed a sudden rise in more notifications from Zynga, Farmville, Mafia Wars and God knows clones of what else? The most recent one flooding my notifications is Astrology and I am so lost why almost everyone is rallying to use these? Don’t we already have horoscopes published in Daily papers, daily?
I have been trying to ignore this for quite some time and today just lost it. It’s annoying, friends you so love being connected to fall prey to these apps to kill time and in turn people like me bear the brunt. There is an update every second coming from these apps, games, etc. The app simply publishes your horoscope on your profile letting you learn what your star says about you and more importantly filling the news feeds of your friends who find it annoying. Well that’s just one app you have issues with sending notifications or the apps having access to your data. What if you need to stop all this from happening, I would like to share a few steps on how you can actually prevent all this and have more control over these apps.
Getting to know the settings
Click on Settings on the top right and from there select Applications Settings. Clicking on the selection will open a list of apps that you have recently used. You can also select categories from the menu on the right just above the list.
Exploring Settings
Next to each app you will see various options which include Edit Settings, Application Profile and a ‘X’ to remove the app from accessing your profile in any manner or making use of the data on the social network. The Application profile takes you to the page of the app on Facebook while you can use the Edit Settings to manage if your data is accessible for the app.
Playing With Settings
The Edit Settings have different options each. These let you define parameters or permission to be more precise for each app. It is here that you can define the privacy settings for apps, that is who can view updates to these. The Additional permissions help users further define or rather customize the accessibility for each of the apps and notifications you get.
Those are just very basic tips, but they can be really helpful for those who are grilled with access of notifications, crowded feeds with updates from apps, etc. While those might just be a bit elaborate tips, the best way still id to attend to your notifications and look out for the block application option. Especially if you really hate being a part of those.
