CenterNetworks has currently reported that JS-Kit has recently been loaded up with updates and their product roadmap. CEO Khris Loux has also pointed out at JS-Kit acquiring HaloScan; a comment replacement service, the sum for which remains undisclosed. HaloScan was the first service that allowed comment replacement and has over 500,000 installations within various blog. Loux comments that despite competition from newer services like Disqus that have been getting a lot of flare, but their reason for tipping in to HaloScan has been its magnitude. He added:
These comment replacement services must have very large scale to be successful – and that HaloScan gives JS-Kit that size.
The success that has come to HaloScan has been the infusion of interactivity within their comment system; they had previously partnered with JS-Kit to allow users make use of a ‘one-click’ engagement of JS-Kit’s rating widgets (for articles only). The current acquisition would boost up JS-Kit’s user-base giving them accessibility to over 520,000 partner sites taking the overall add-up to 550,000 sites. That’s not it, JS-Kit is also confident at increasing the number of participating web-sites by 300 on a daily basis. For HaloScan; the acquisition opens up for them usability of JS-Kit’s Ratings, Polls, Reviews and Adviser widgets with added filtering for profanity and Akismet spam protection.
Another keynote here would be the improvement of HaloScan’s quality of service that has taken a slump lately owing to server issues; the reason for which has been the transit over to JS-Kit with the matter to be resolved once the transition is through. JS-Kit on the other hand would utilize thee deal by launching its new features that would be readily available for the users; the open standard based, portable user profile is one of them. The idea of this is to make access to comments made anywhere on the JS-Kit partner sites easier than it ever could be. This feature can be accessed via a pop-up on the sites hosting comments.
There is an endless list off features available along with an open ID for users (ass mentioned above), plus an added synchronization feature between Wordpress and Blogger, enabling an easy adaptability within existing blogs; meaning that users will have the privilege of importing their previous comments from any of the two sites. Then there is an even easier method of directly updating your comments via the JS-Kit’s widget, make those comments in the widget and Bing, it’s off to your Wordpress or Blogger.
There is a bulk a of feature in the pipe waiting implementation, SEO support being available; with a static page for comment indexing that can be put up on a server that lets search engine view content within your site taking JS-Kit out (that is it remains a the back end).
The current acquisition is IP based and the widgets that are HaloScan branded will be using the JS-Kit widgets. The swap has gone up to 20% and the replication of comment data is underway making sure no previous data is lost.
