Google has withdrawn from its Ad-Search deal with Yahoo!. This comes after months of delaying the contract due to heavy criticism from advertisers and publishers against the deal, and as a result the matter was taken to court. Though both companies had expected this sort of thing to happen, and the contract itself included time delay from regulators to decide whether the deal was beneficiary for all and could go through or not. While this wasn’t legally necessary, the companies thought it was the right thing to do.
Quoting from the official Google Blog, where David Drummond Senior VP Corporate Development and Chief Legal Officer states:
“The final decision comes after government regulators and some advertisers continue to have concerns about the agreement. Going any further would only result in a protracted legal battle and cause damage to relationships with valued partners – hurting long-term interests of Google or our users.”
