ThinkFree, a startup that is competing with Google Docs and Spredsheets and Zoho and in the online office space has just released a plugin, Viewer that will enable WordPress bloggers to embed MS Office docs, spreadsheets and presentations in their blogs. The embeded docs could then be viewed by users without the need to have Office or Acrobat. This is certainly another small effort to make office redundant.
Another major feature enhancement is the release of Viewer API that will allow developers to integrate and mashup with ThinkFree into new and exciting applications. With the uptake of this API we will be seeing documents, spreadsheets and presentations on websites way too often, without the use to even download them. Some examples could be viewed here. I however would still want to have these documents embedded in my posts as a widget.
ThinkFree has also decided that they don’t just want to compete in the online office space but also wants to be a Youtube for Documents. They will soon be launching ThinkFree Docs, after it goes through a series of re-designs. The service will enable content creators to share, read and comment on documents online. The demo site could be viewed here.
