The iGoogle Developer Blog unveiled that the experimental version of iGoogle shall induct more users as the service’s result turned out to be a success. Among the upgraded features is the Canvas view, an option that will bring support for OpenSocial gadgets. Though the vertical tabs replacing the horizontal ones; missing functionality of not being able to move a gadget to a different tab; and a couple more features in the new design are bringing complains by users in iGoogle’s discussion board.
This is probably caused by Google’s selection process, picking random users to test out its product, thus resulting in the above stated. A comment from user is linked here, just to give an idea of the disturbances caused by the upgrades. Although we’re used to seeing web applications update much faster, without allowing users to stick to the older version; it’s not a popular move to replace a version of a popular application like iGoogle, with an unfinished version. And obviously if you do not provide a ‘opt-out’ option, it causes some difficulty to the user. Most users thus migrated to My Yahoo, Netvibes, and other such services. As iGoogle was supposed to be a personalized Google homepage, it is yet to fill up on its task.

I read about a site today called 43marks.com - its like iGoogle but better cuz you can add you own bookmarks and the bookmarks can be websites not just gadgets and RSS feeds although you can upload your favorite RSS feeds too. Its free and totally customizable. Plus you don’t have to login to see your bookmarks and RSS feeds cuz they give you a unique URL just type that in to any computer and you have your bookmarks without having to login - Just one less step for me to access my bookmarks
Thanks for sharing.
