The Google, The Chrome, The EULA: ‘You caught us, We will change the terms”

Be it Street View controversies (that are innumerable) to launch of Android and the first set having the software running due by November (creator HTC) to the present launch of Chrome; Google’s own browser. There is always news about one thing or the other, the present is regarding EULA controversy.

The problem? As always Google tries to have nonexclusive rights to display and share all the content making its way to and fro using Chrome and once caught up, Google hangs its tail saying it’s going to change it (thanks that they are kind enough to do that).

What it appears is that Chrome’s EULA resembles quite a lot like the rest of the EULAs Google has. I was for once lost as to why in the world should I let Google bite off my privacy and let the entire world know even a hair width of information that I send/receive across the web? Senior Product Counsel for Google Chrome, Rebecca Ward commented at Ars Technica:

In order to keep things simple for our users; this means that the legal terms for a specific product may include terms that don’t apply well to the use of that product….working quickly to remove language from Section 11 of the current Google Chrome terms of service. This change will apply retroactively to all users who have downloaded Google Chrome.

Now many would say that users can take advantage of Chrome being Open-sourced and compile the source code without any need to agree Google’s terms and conditions but is that the right answer? I guess Google has done the right thing by bringing down its version of EULA that has its teeth dug into user information.
