After having laid off 18 percent of its staff, Tesla Motors, Elon Musk’s electric sports car startup got another lifeline in the form of its new line of $40 million convertibles. The $110,000 cars, most of which have already been paid in full and others which have deposits of $5,000 to $60,000 on them, are 100% electric-battery powered, run 244 miles per charge, burn no oil and go 0 to 60 in 3.9 seconds.
