TC50: Want Twitter for your Company? Try Yammer

Asma Kaleem

yammer logo Twitter is a fabulous micro messaging service that allows you to intermingle with your friends and followers by asking you a simple eminent question: ‘what are you doing’ and allows you to answer by playing with 140 characters only. Apart from Social activities, twitter in business can really enhance your productivity and efficiency. Yammer is twitter for Business.

The startup that was demonstrated at TC50, allows you to interact with your coworkers and colleagues by asking you a simple question of ‘what are you working on?’ The answers to this specific question are streamed in to the common base, just like RSS feeds. This way, you can keep an eye on all your coworkers’ activities and can stratify work accordingly, avoiding any mishaps and confusions.

Yammer is a weighty repository of all employees’ work that provides you with a glimpse of all past records, conversations, ideas and reports that could be utilized to enjoy an efficient and calm working environment. Any employee of a company can join Yammer Network by creating a Yammer account and inviting colleagues. The site retains privacy by allowing people with valid company’s email id only. So, you don’t have to worry about security intrusion by any third party.

Yammer is launching with few apps such as desktop AIR app, iPhone and BlackBerry app along with a SMS interface. You can access the basic Yammer product for free while an Enterprise version with enhanced security features and admin tool will charge you few bucks.

Yammer is surely going to help business and organizations. Group working on a same project can certainly make most out of it. With number of companies heading towards their self-created custom versions of micro-messaging business models and with the availability of open-source software that serves the similar concept, Yammer can still help companies who aren’t using such kind of services or are planning to have one.

I really like the concept behind this interesting Business- enhancement tool that aggregates status updates from all your coworkers on a single platform.

I definitely see a role for a twitter-like application in the enterprise, both for knowledge sharing and bring employees closer together. I posted briefly on this yesterday (http://startupcfo.ca/2008/09/yammer-twitter-for-business.html) and have it on good authority that Yammer is about to get some serious competition (next week)

would be a great acquisition for LinkedIn. what say… they ask the same question too, only its much cooler on a twitter like app :)
meanwhile, great TC 50 coverage guys :D

Hmm, Good idea, LinkedIn is quiet messsy as compare to Yammer while Yammer is clean and simple. And this can probably help it to gain popularity (especially, its twitter-ish resemblance:P)

And Thanx a lot for appreciating our efforts:)
