TC 50: PlaYce is a Social Gaming Platform that mimics the real world

image-thumb134 TC 50: PlaYce is a Social Gaming Platform that mimics the real world PlaYce, another startup to launch at TC 50, is a social gaming platform that lets users play games in real geographical locations. The graphics and visualization of the geographical locations almost matches that of the desktop based games, something that far exceeds its web based counterparts.

In order to start a game, you just need to select a game and connect with the server. The games are completely online and you don’t have to download a thing. The service uses streaming to download their entire database onto your browser with in few seconds. However, since it gets streamed to you, you could start right away even in countries that don’t have broadband support at the moment.

The company has created an API that would be open to developers who would have to first select a geographical location and than design and develop their game around that location. Once a game is developed, it could be ported to other locations as well.

The whole thing only works with IE at the moment, but the company intends to make it available for Firefox and hopefully Chrome as well. The games are completely free to develop and play. I don’t know what they will do in case some developer would want to charge for his game.

Like all gaming platforms, the success of PlaYce would depend on the quality and addictivity of the games that would be developed on it. This in turn depends on the quality of the developers that the company manages to attract. But this is certainly one startup to look at in a couple of months.

PlaYce has raised $1 million in funding and is based in San Francisco, California.
