Mixtt, a startup that launched at TC 50, isn’t much happy about the current state of affairs at the social networks since they believe that the fundamental model of social networks breaks real world groups and instead makes virtual ones. The reason that the social networks breaks real world groups is because people dont sign up in hordes and than when they sign up later on, they might not be able to find their buddy or join their groups.
Mixtt wants to address this in a way that they enable people to join in groups right from the get go and give your group a name. Once that’s done you could than add events to your group calendar, find other similar groups in the neighborhood and so on.
The service is just rolling out in San Francisco to begin with, but will soon be available in Los Angeles and New York City. Mixtt thinks that the ability to add group calendars, to join the service in hordes, and to take socialization to real world places would make it hot cake even among the Facebook junkies.
My biggest concern and the one that Roelof also aptly put was that if other social networks couldn’t handle coordination, search and communication in the social network, how would Mixtt handle it offline. Because in essence if you are claiming that the people would be able to join in groups, how would you ensure that they communicate and coordinate in order to do so ? Are you simply relying on their ability and desire to do so ? But then the service is as desirable as the desire of the groups to mingle and mingle together on Mixtt.

Nice approach and funny as we share most letters in our names. By http://www.mixin.com we are also a social agenda but we took another approach for our first version. We are first focusing on the existing community of a user. We let people share, discuss and decide activities with their friends. What is key for us is to create opportunities for people to meet in real life. In mixin people can share plans, wishes, make propositions or just say when they might be available. Enter whatever you find interesting in your agenda.
It’s a bit like twitter but focusing on the future, focusing on what could or will happen. What is key for mixin, is to let people easily share information, so for example if you already use twitter, you can directly push activities to your mixin agenda from twitter. Just tweet “who’s up for a drink tonight?” and mixin will place it at the right place in your agenda. The same works by IM, SMS, Email or you can just import your gCal (or another ics) if you prefer. On the other side, you can share your agenda in various formats too. What is important for us to is to let you friends get the information and be able to discuss or join directly. Among other things, we are also working on a Facebook application so that it should be easier to share your agenda with your Fb buddies too.
