causecast thumb TC 50: CauseCast – a startup working for a cause I have always had a lot of respect for startups, since they are the future of technology and the engine of economic growth. But even within startups there is a breed that commands much more respect and love than normal startups. That breed is the one that attacks philanthropic causes to help make this world a better place to live. One of the most prominent philanthropic startups that comes to mind is Kiva, but they are not alone.

Causecast, a startup that launched at TC 50, wants to bring 10 non-profit companies to the spot light each month by getting celebrities and political figures involved in the whole act. The service provides information about the non-profit that includes videos, event listings, activities that it carries out and so on.

You as a user can than go on to donate to these non-profit organizations and create a portfolio of your non-profit companies that you think are doing the best job that is possible with their resources. You could take your favorite non profit companies and have them display on your blog or web site via a widget.

Every cause in CauseCast has a cheerleader, so for example Ashton Kutcher is currently cheerleading Habitat for Humanity. CauseCast charges a paltry some to carry out operations and the rest of the money goes to the causes.

I wish, pray and support the cause of CauseCast wholeheartedly. CauseCast has raised $2 million in funding to date and is based in Santa Monica, California.
