Does anyone recall Microsoft and its Project Natal? The news associated to the project has been leaked times and again since last year and there had been many indications that confirmed its existence. The major was Microsoft’s acquisition of Israeli startup 3DV Systems. The startup was acquired for an estimated $30 to $35 Million. However Microsoft has confirmed the presence of Project Natal and has officially announce it as Microsoft Kinect for its gaming console, the Xbox 360.

This would utilize the remote control free technology and will be based completely on motion sensing, which now justifies the acquisition of 3DV Systems. If that leaves you clueless let me give you a hint, the device would enable you to control your gaming by gestures, just like Tom Cruise plays with his hands in Minority Report.

A sad day for Microsoft as the software giant bids adieu to its pioneers J. Allard and Robbie Bach. Allard has served Microsoft in the capacity of CTO, Device Division and has seconded Robbie in the Entertainment division, which Robbie is a President of. The duo has been the main force behind Zune, Project Natal and the famed Xbox.

If I am not wrong, the two have been the main players behind all innovation from Microsoft in the Entertainment side in the last ten years or so. With them they take a bulk of experience and expertise, just wonder what motivated them to wave goodbye.

3DV Systems Israeli startup that develops the technology to detect shapes and motion had been acquired by Microsoft, the news which has been confirmed by Microsoft today. There has been no confirmation about the price for which the acquisition was made but it’s close to the $30 Million to $35 Million range as had been rumored. Many of 3DV’s employees will continue work at Microsoft’s research and development center in Israel. The acquisition holds a key value and will prove to be useful since Microsoft develops its own gaming console, the XBox which fill find its technology more than useful, especially since it begun working on Project Natal.
