Isn’t that obvious?

image thumb82 Axess.im: Shortened URL to your personal page

If you are looking for an easy way to create page about anything you would like to put online to share, then Axess.im is the page creator for you. The site reminds me of the old methods used to create the page, the interface reminded me of Microsoft Front Page. But that shouldn’t take anything away from it. I bet, you will not be disappointed, given that you can monetize the same by adding AdSense code to it. The idea is primarily to utilize the idea of URL shortener and use it as a shortcut to the content you upload. Now the startup wont provide you with hosting space for your photos, which means you will need to utilize other services like TinyPic, etc and of course don’t forget to bookmark the page and link if you are to need it to spread the link.

image thumb46 Urloid: Slim down links to more readable Shortened URLS

As long as the world exists, we will continue to see URL shorteners born one after another. I bet there have been a countless link crunchers that I have not covered in the past and many don’t know how many do exist? Anyways Urloid is another to join the ranks. Though the short URL appears a bit longer, given the name but it lets users assign custom keywords or letters. For example I can use the word Startup Meme and assign each link I shorten a number is assigned making it much more readable instead of the jungle of alphabets and numbers that you can’t memorize. i don’t find it that bad, though the background could have been something better than fishes swimming around.

Bit.ly Minus 2 is J.mp

image thumb26 Bit.ly Minus 2 is J.mp

Bit.ly has gained a lot of popularity, thanks to its problem free service and becoming the default link cruncher for Twitter. The URL shortening service has shortened its already shortened service even more. The new branding puts bit.ly as j.mp saving you an additional two characters. Well sounds justified given that every character counts on Twitter and it offers nothing extra apart from the name and use the same credentials that you have for Bit.ly. Here is a shortened version of Startup Meme’s link.

image thumb154 Here comes another URL Shortener.. Br.St

If you thought that the Web has had enough of these URL shorteners, think again as it hasn’t. Br.st joins the bandwagon, coming from the web hosting startup Brinkster. The service does what every other service in the category does and provides you stats which include hits, referrers, etc. But I sort of like the interface, at least it isn’t as dead as the many link shorteners in business. I am not sure how far it is going to go but this is definitely my preferred one for the time being and I wish it best to keep so in times to come.

image thumb137 Bit.ly continues to expand beyond Twitter, extending to Google, TypePad

Bit.ly, the URL shortener has grown by leaps and bounds, especially after Twitter adopted it as its default URL shortener. To be honest the service has done all the hard work at efficiently handling the load of shortening URLs on Twitter which is why it is expanding. The service is releasing new APIs plus new partnerships that are under way. Talking about partnerships, I bet Bit.ly is going to get a huge boost with Google Reader as it readily uses it for shortening URLs. That’s just one side of the picture, there are more services that continue to leverage the link shortener, namely CBS, SixApart for its TypePad all the way to Mozilla building up a retweet button using Bit.ly to shorten links.

image thumb83 We will do what we want and we will make Tr.im Open Source! I hope Nambu sticks to this one

I feel like throwing a boot showering Nambu Networks with flowers and salute its confusion on what it has to do with Tr.im. Seriously, there is a limit to being indecisive and they are setting new standards on that as they plan to make the URL shortening service Open Sourced. Wait, wait, weren’t they shutting it down? Oh, sorry, they were trying to sell it, no not selling it and keeping it runningwhat nonsense! Well at least they have decided (hopefully) they will make it open source which is a pretty good idea and something they should have done earlier. Their decision to shut it down all because Bit.ly was Twitter’s default URL shortener sounded pretty lame and damaged their credibility to accept the challenge. I mean there are many others out there already and doing much worse than Tr.im. Glad they got this in their head, I just hope they are done with this and stick to this decision.

image thumb48 Nambu plans to sell tr.im’s rotting corpse for $80,000.. isn’t that unethical?

We reported the shutting down of Tr.im the URL shortening  service form Nambu, primarily because Twitter had chosen Bit.ly as its default URL shortener. However Bit.ly was kind enough to suggest a few ways to make sure that all links shortened by tr.im don’t become useless after 31’st December. Those had been put down, why? Well Nambu wants to make some cash off the corpse, and their demand lies between $80,000 and $100,000. Why would someone pay them that amount of cash? To save all those links? I guess there must be a bigger reason behind it, one that we are still trying to figure out. There are some really enthusiastic firms/people interested in buying the service for an unsaid price. Lets see who is lucky enough, for Nambu itself has no plans of selling it for any price lower than $80,000.
