Christmas gone nothing happened but we did see a lot happening as Comex pulled back his version of the untethered iOS jailbreak and gave hope of an alternative. However the iPhone Dev Team has lived up to our expectations as they just released their Backup Plan.

We had talked about the coming of the newest unlocking tools for for the iPhone 3GS and 3G on the iOS 4.2.1. This would unlock you 3G and 3GS models on the 05.13.04 baseband. I guess it is clear for all that the iPhone 4 is not included since it has a different baseband for the OS.
The iPhone Dev team on their blog have written in detail regarding the unlock. One good bit is that this unlock might very well work on your iPad on 3.2.2. Although this has a baseband of 06.15.00 the Dev team specified that it has a similar exploit [AT+XAPP] like the iPhone 3G and the iPhone 3GS. Users will be able to unlock it on their Mac devices using the PwnageTool with the redsn0w set to be released soon. We will be sharing the step by step procedure soon with you all, but for the time being we are sharing what the Dev Team has mentioned on their blog.

While the white iPhone 4 might be a rumor for good our friends across the blogosphere and on Twitter just confirmed that the iPhone 3G / 3GS unlock for all baseband will be rolled the coming Sunday. This release will be come accompanied with the Ultrasn0w update.
However there is one sad news, this unlock will only be available for the iPhone 3G and 3GS on iOS 4.2.1 [all basebands] users, meaning those with the iPhone 4 will have to wait a bit longer. We aren’t sure when exactly is this coming, but it will be soon enough I suppose. The news of the release was recently confirmed by the iPhone Dev Team’s MuscleNerd:

The good news is that iPhone lovers, especially those who love to unlock or have jailbreak tools, don’t usually get to test their patience a lot. MuscleNerd of the iPhone Dev Team just confirmed that those of you with an iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS on iOS 4.1 and 4.2 will have the Ultrasn0w unlock. This would come with a 05.14.02 baseband and will be released when Apple releases the iOS 4.2. A couple of days at most.

We had reported earlier about the coming of the latest Sn0breeze jailbreak tool a few days back and it appears that folks behind Sn0wbreezehave already jailbroken iOS 4.2 for the iPad. Sn0wbreeze utilizes the Limera1n exploit to jailbreak iOS versions.
