While we wait for the October 4 Apple Media Event, the news of the next generation of the iPhone continue to surface. While the design more or less remains a secret, we have seen everything from the hardware specifications of the iPhone 4S to the cases of the iPhone 5. However, Sprint was once again up with revealing the availability of the iPhone 4S and the iPhone 5, today it was Radio Shack revealing the same.

This is just in. Sprint might be up selling the iPhone 5 in October. That’s another plus one to make us believe in the rumors about the iPhone 5 release in October. This would make Sprint among the few carriers to provide the next generation of the Apple iPhone.

That is exactly the message sent across by Sprint when it fired two of its employees for they helped catch a shoplifter in a mall while they were on a lunch break. What a stupid thing to do and the reason? Sprint thinks it is a behavioral issue.
Excuse me? But how is that a behavioral issue? Did they ask the thief to snatch a lady’s bag and run away? Or did they catch the thief and slapped everyone else in the shopping mall? Not at all, the simple reason is the two guys took a 15 minute break that they are given on an 8 hour shift and instead of munching on some hot dogs, they helped the plaza guard catch the thief who was in possession of items worth hundreds of dollars. Ironic.

The bruises and scars of the recession are going to take a lot of time to heal and while it heals, it will give more wounds to many. Today Sprint announced that it will be be saving around $350 Million in the fourth quarter and to achieve this it will be be laying off employees. The number of these layoffs will be between 2,000 to 2,500 and this round of layoffs will be completed by December 31 this year. The mobile carrier has already shut down 27 call centers given a phenomenal fall in call volume. Sad for the employees, especially those who will end a year with a layoff. Hope the new year brings glad tidings for them.

There is quite a stir in the air as larger companies acquire others. The latest report on acquisition speaks of Sprint Nextel getting its hands on Virgin Mobile USA for $483 Million. Sprint appears quite interested in the idea of prepaid cellular service, which is why it has stepped up this deal. The deal would end up integrating Virgin Mobile with Sprint Boost service while keeping its brand name as it is and CEO, Dan Schulman will take charge as head of Sprint’s prepaid business.
