image thumb53 MySpace: Fox International Channels, please look after out International Ad Operations

After laying off almost half its workforce, MySpace begin to think about its growth outside the U.S. as it joined hands with Fox International Channels. As a result of this, FIC will take charge of the social network’s marketing, advertising, etc around the world. This will definitely help MySpace keep a foot on the expenses and utilize the network of FIC to help it expand business internationally. Given that MySpace has suffered quite a lot outside the U.S which also justifies the layoffs and keeping all this in mind; MySpace’s decision to give charge of advertising/marketing to another unit sounds intelligent enough. However time will tell how fruitful this turns out for the social network.

image thumb9 Gizmodo and Engadget bring everything about Gadgets to Gdgt

Gizmodo and Engadget have joined hands to launch their very own gadget site, Gdgt. The plans to bring this had been voiced for almost a year but its founders Peter Rojas (fonder/editor of Gizmodo) and Ryan Block (editor of Engadget) have finally put the plans to reality. The site is more like a gadget community where visitors can discuss anything that is associated to gadgets. This might seem like an extended version of the gadget blogs but it’s more organized. The site has everything to offer for tech geeks and they can become a part part of it by creating profiles just like they do on the numerous social networks out there.

image thumb7 MySpace is done with layoffs for now.. changes Logo

It had to happen, changes I mean, ever since MySpace lost its battle with Facebook to be the leading social network. First layoffs and now the change in its logo. From being a place for friends it is now simply MySpace and expect nothing more. I find it utterly useless to do so or wait maybe they fired the person who was gaga about MySpace being  a place for friends, though it could have been useful had they changed the logo and not laid off employees in numbers. Reports also state that MySpace will be shedding weight on the site as well by removing the big ad units that decorate the entire page.

layoff thumb2 MySpace International Staff to get short by 66%

MySpace appears to be pushing hard to cut short expenses, so hard that appears to be desperate with the idea. The company laid off 500 of its U.S workforce earlier this month and there were rumors of layoffs coming to storm the International staff. Well that’s not a rumor anymore as MySpace will be cutting short its International staff by 66%. Well all this restructuring is only second to Yahoo. I just hope all this works out in MySpace’s favor, though I don’t see how it actually helps it to grow past Facebook.

image thumb107 Kevin Marks takes a bow from Google

Google waved goodbye to Kevin Marks, the man who has been a key person behind almost every social initiative of the company. Those initiatives include Google Profiles, Orkut, to name a few. The reason for his exit is not yet known but I guess the man has called it quits just to build up on his experience and most probably take up an initiative of his own, perhaps a startup. I wonder how good was Google’s HR algorithm to test what employees will quit jobs.

image thumb105 Facebook: If Privacy is Exploitable how safe is our information there?

Is Facebook really taking its success for granted? Well I might appear to be exaggerating all that but there have been reports of the site being under attack of scammers, etc. Today there was another report, an exploit that reveals your personal info to others, who are not a part of your network or friends. The exploit was reported by FBHive that talked about it being a security loophole that if exploited can reveal your personal information and they have proof of that, the team has revealed personal info of Mark Zuckerberg and a few others. The issue has been resolved for now but it took over a fortnight to do so by the Facebook team. While this does happen and there can be enough loopholes that a clever hacker can exploit, but Facebook has to live up to its mark and promise that it boasts about privacy of users.

image thumb4 MySpace looks forward to maximize profits, tests Interactive Ads with Social Median

MySpace might have lost its stand against Facebook at being the top social network, but it’s currently involved in collaboration with SocialMedian to put Interaction Ads to practicality. Interaction Ads target members of MySpace requiring their inputs and then uses the same along with other social activities to target most relevant ads. This step is based on Social Median’s social ads, which works around by marketing pages/products to your friends that you like. This provides higher chances of user interaction compared to the traditional banner ads. MySpace would be more than happy to make the most of its existing user base, selling ads to third parties to boost its earnings as it continues to fall back.
