Yesterday we shared a big news on the redesign of the Facebook profile when Mark Zuckerberg made appearance on the 60 minutes show. I was wondering what this redesign is going to be like and if we will see a backlash. Yeah, expect that just like it has happened in the past as users have taken time to adjust to the social network’s redesign attempts and even complained a lot.

The Facebook f8 conference is just a few hours away and we are all ready for some changes to be coming our way. We have already seen a few over the past few months and some recent ones in the last couple weeks. The transition of Become a Fan to Likes, the launch of Community Pages, the world wide Like option, just to name a few. However there is something that Facebook needs to do about its design, make it a bit better.
The design needs to be neater, there should be space to breath as the current layout looks all too cluttered and suffocating. Well there are a few people who might have interesting designs which Facebook can implement or at least learn how to build a good one. iA had some interesting layouts, and I don’t see why these wont be tried. The page above speaks a lot, I mean the first look at it and you see it has enough space to breath and escape from the bulk of text flooding your feed.
I just thought about doing a bit of a search for Hate groups on Facebook that specifically hate the social network. Do it on your own and I can bet you will find a plenty of them and this does not include attempts that failed to create a hype. What is the point guys? You hate new facebook create a brouhaha and yet continue to be a part of what they hate the most.
I wont waste time highlighting each and everyone of those groups but put forward the top few that appear on the first page of search results. The list begins:
I am wondering what will those creative Facebook users go through when they learn that the social network is about to slice and dice your profile pictures. I know its nerve wrecking. Not for people like me who just add their own photo taken randomly, but the artistic people whose photos won them a lot of praise would be cursing this.
The social network plans to reduce the size of the profile pictures in the coming week and at the same time enable you to upload larger file sizes. While this does sound bad, I personally think there are some useful updates planned to be made in its photo application. To me it isn’t anything surprising, given that the social network is doing some redesign of the entire site, we have seen some changes in the homepage, well that’s not the only place on Facebook where it’s happening. The redesign would most definitely include profile and fan pages as well as those for groups. The idea is to make the platform appear cleaner and more effective. The tabs themselves have been reduced from 720 to 520 pixels, meaning that the developers out there want the content more condensed.
The Facebook redesign continues to happen and the social network has been trying to make itself better by the day. Speaking of the current design, there is not much I have against it save for the fact I hate the extensive toolbar at the bottom. First, I never use it, second it just irritates being there.
There are reports of another redesign coming up anytime soon from Facebook and it’s already been tested out for a few. Before I proceed to what are the new things you might encounter in the redesign I personally think it needs to have something to control the news feed storm in some manner. Which brings me to an earlier discussion I talked about where Facebook is actually trying to cut pull the leg of the applications ending those status updates. Which is a breather for me at least.
The search is simpler with Google and faster too but that doesn’t satisfy people at Google who are always looking for ways to make it even better. Why the need for improvement? It is quite unpredictable and to get rid of this issue, Google is planning to change its homepage to quite some extent with the inclusion of a permanent side bar. This will be rolled out to a few users for tests with a side bar on the left and as one can predict it would help you narrow your search from everything to just images, news, etc. Now that is quite similar in functionality compared to the options at the top left, but then those appear to be way out of sight and aren’t good at the interface. If this comes out, we might be on the verge of seeing Google breaking away from its tradition of KISS.
