image thumb11 How Safe Is Your Information On Facebook?

Earlier today Twitter asked its users to reset their passwords after a phishing scam set free earlier on the micromessaging service. Now haven’t there been many already on Facebook? While Twitter is definitely home to a lot of activity online, it can be less threatening given that you are primarily sharing links and very little information about yourself directly. So the most any one can do in a short time is learn about your pattern of activity across the platform, but have you thought about your Facebook profile?

To me its a haven for any hacker, the right place any hacker would love to toil to extract the best out of it. We have seen spammers making the most of it, so have the countless phishing scams. While all those have been about spreading a viral video or two every now and then, it just shows how vulnerable the whole population is.

image thumb83 MySpace falls prey to phishing attack.. as scammers exploit a security flaw in MySpace

I thought Spam and phishing was related to Facebook and Twitter, but we have another one in the list, MySpace. Reports state that users of the social network are under a spam attack that gets access to their accounts. The message is quite easy to keep an eye on and invites users to make $ in summer. The users are falling for this attack via the links present in users’ status messages. The hack exploits a security vulnerability in MySpace, the flaw hackers know about and are ready to exploit, but MySpace still needs a day to get it fixed.

image thumb55 Gmail gets Verified Accounts Key to stop phishing

In a bid to make Gmail more secure and protected from phishing scams, the Gmail team has added another useful feature that verifies if the email has come a legal site or not.  Users can turn the feature on by turning on the Authentication icon for Verified senders from settings in the Labs section. With this on, users will see a key next to the emails, which means that the email received is trustworthy. Currently is only limited to PayPal and eBay. This is definitely going to be more common as Gmail sees how effective it is with the current system, eventually having more verified accounts so that users may readily trust the emails coming from each.

image thumb23 Phishing Season Opens up at YouTube: Partners Beware!

There is another web service hit by phishers after their attempts at Twitter and Facebook. The current target is YouTube as reports state that many of its partners are getting emails that appear to have been sent by Google and YouTube teams. The email asks them to enter their login credentials and other personal information. While it’s pretty easy to pick out these phishing mails, the one sent from YouTube appears quite professional and neat. Just be careful if you are a YouTube partner and receive the following in your inbox.

image thumb85 Phishing scam now rampant on Twitter. Facebook you are not alone!

When almost half the people on Twitter consider that the purpose of Twitter is primarily having maximum followers it becomes easier for scammers to fish follower hungry users. Earlier today a similar one broke out at Twitter that had the right words to Phish the ever demanding Tweeples. A tweet would appear in your stream with the ever enticing OMG I just got over 1000 followers today from http://twittercut.com. Just watch out and don’t click the link. And in case you do just don’t enter your Twitter credentials when you are directed to the site. The account from which it originated has been suspended but it keeps appearing now and then from those who have fallen victim to it.

The phishing season never ends at Facebook and there is no one who will argue about this. Why? Well in then tree weeks, the leading social network has been hit for third time and once again it comes as a message from your friend in your inbox asking you to check areps.at. This is similar to the earlier reported 151.im and does not appear as a link in your Facebook inbox. Under any circumstances don’t try to copy/paste it in your browser.
