It seems like quite a time when I last mentioned something about Android, I guess the Holiday season left us too much occupied with Apple and the jailbreak stories. Anyways coming to the current stir on the latest release of Android; Gingerbread.

There has been a lot of fuss indeed over the coming of the Google Chrome OS since July last year. We have seen it running on the Apple iPad and Google’s plans to use the Chrome OS to power iPad competitors alike. But today reports broke out about the upcoming Google Chrome OS Event which is scheduled to take place on December 7 in San Francisco.

While I was away taking time off, I missed out the Samsung Mobile Event in New York and the possibility of the Samsung/Google Nexus Two. The news is that the release of the Nexus Two from Samsung has been delayed owing to some hardware issues in the device. Glad, Google didn’t rush with the release as it would have been quite a big blow to both Samsung and Google, in my humble opinion.

Nokia has some great concepts and lets not hammer them for losing out in the smartphone battle with the iPhone and Google Android OS. Nokia recently released three new models of its smartphones, the Nokia E7, C7 and the C6 running on the Symbian 3 and the Nokia N8 a couple of days back. All those look promising, but this latest video from the Nokia World has impressed me more than anything else.

Alright I know I have reviewed a few Nokia devices in the last few months, but that by no means should mean I am its fan. No personal envy, but I seriously feel that Nokia does the most needed very late. The touch screen, OS efficiency and what not? I mean they were and are market leaders and they had all the time and revenue to experiment a number of things. Anyways coming over to mobile news, the much awaited and talked about Nokia N8 is now available for pre-orders online.
Not sure how many of you are going to buy this device priced at $549 [Pre-order] but in all honesty it is a better device compared to the recent releases. Especially the Nokia X3-02. Some of the key specs are:

I admire Nokia for everything, the great number of mobile devices it has given us until Apple stepped in with the iPhone and Nokia began losing ground. Not that it has lost its position of being the market leader in mobile arena, but it has become less alluring. Well at least for the more style savvy folks. Anyways, coming to the news, the Finnish cell phone manufacturer has released the latest mobile device in the X-Series by name of Nokia X3-02, making the device sound more like a License place of a vehicle and less of a mobile.
The X3, as I would put it is a hybrid of the ancient with the modern. Primarily because Nokia sticks to its habit of taking tradition along. The device boasts a standard numeric Keypad with a small touchscreen, the device from the first looks, gives a typical Nokia look of perfection. But, it’s the software I detest, the X3 runs on the more ancient Symbian S40 operating system, which should be enough to make you realize that we aren’t talking about a great user interface. Other than that it looks quite good. The specs for the device are as follows:

The Android Operating System tops the mobile operating market with a 33 percent share. I feel I shouldn’t be praising Android, despite being a huge Google fan. Come on folks it isn’t a big achievement to lead the operating system market primarily for the fact that Android based devices are raining in the market like cats and dogs. Pardon me, I know many dislike me being so blunt, but it is a plain old fact.

Windows 7 is really doing great as stats roll out stating that the OS is actually doing better than Snow Leopard Mac OS. The stats put Windows 7 powered PCs at 5.07% while the Mac OS X is just a fraction behind with 5%. While that is great to know, but it isn’t surprising given that Microsoft leads the OS market with a staggering 92% market share. But to be honest it has fared much better than its Vista and the latest OS continues to grow with a close to 4% monthly increase. I guess Ballmer was right on that when he was all excited with the performance of Windows 7 earlier.

Reports are coming in on who is the leader when it comes to the race amongst smartphones bringing in major web traffic. To no surprise the iPhone and the Android lead the race with 75% share. What is more surprising here is the rise of the Android OS which continues to grow exponentially. Well I guess the reason could very well be the burst in the many devices being manufactured running on the Android OS. I mean for the iPhone we only have one device, while the Android has already got almost half a dozen in less than three months coming from Samsung to Motorola. I guess as manufacturers build more devices running these OS, there will be a significant growth in traffic coming from these devices.

Every day it appears that Google Chrome OS heads closer to reality as more screen shots surface. The browser based operating system has been in talks for more than a month. I am not sure if these screenshots are real but we will take any and every thing associated to the reported OS. To be honest, the very simple icons, etc appear Googlish enough to be true which makes these screenshots pretty close to being of the real OS, but I will rather wait than go ahead and confirm these to be real photos.
