Well not joking about anything here but if people can murder others for posting photos with a new boy friend, others can definitely get fired for posting photos fooling around someone’s private chambers. Today the leader of Hong Kong had his housekeeper fired because he posted photos of his friends playing around the premier’s private chambers. The photos included teens who were at his residence along with others for a barbecue.

There is no way you can satisfy everyone and the job gets tougher the more you grow in popularity. The same is the case with Facebook as the social network continues to face issues from its users every now and then. Presently, five people in the Northern District of California have filed a lawsuit against the social network.
You are bound to attract attention from Law as you get famous or grow more prominent. We have seen it happening on the Web with giants like Microsoft and Google and Facebook as well, to name a few. Today however the largest social network fell prey to law enforcement agencies in Europe and the reason being that Facebook lacks better privacy options for children.
European commissioner for information society, Vivian Reding stated that Facebook should make its privacy options for kids more safer. The idea of a law institution taking the talk up to the social networks and surprisingly enough more than two dozen of the social sites promised to improve their settings. Each one except for Facebook. The demand of the commission was that it wants all profiles for kids on such sites to be private, especially Facebook which offers too many options for privacy.
First the deal with O2 in Germany to Yahoo and now we have more trouble for Google as the Turkish Government fined it with $47 Million. The purpose? The authorities found that the search giant was involved in a tax fraud. The authorities require Google to pay taxes on the revenue it generates through the registered companies in the country. Google on the other hand says that no wonder it leads the search market in Turkey, but the entire ad network is based in Ireland, which exempts it from paying taxes to Turkey. There has been no final settlement on the issue and both parties are still involved in talks for some sort of settlement. By the way do you think that every other region finds it easy to squeeze cash from Google or Google uses its leader position to escape from the clutches of laws, etc? Do give us your opinion in the comments.
We reported Google acquiring On2 Technologies for a healthy $106.5 Million but it appears On2’s shareholders aren’t in favor of the acquisition. They have filed a lawsuit demanding that the deal should be frozen, why? Because they think that On2’s directors have fished the firm for the best possible cash value. The think that On2’s stock could have traded at a better value, which sounds pretty confusing as many had agreed with the deal, given that On2 execs had mentioned that shareholders will have a chance to be amongst Google’s shareholders too. I guess its shareholders fear the risks involved and amalgamating new technologies into the existing one of the company, which itself is pretty firm. Lets see how this shapes up later when SEC has statements filed.
The courts are throwing in a lot of fines on firms as Rapidshare got its share of it today. The Regional Court in Hamburg, Germany fined the file hosting service with a massive $34 million. The case was filed by GEMA, a copyright protection association that represents more than 65,000 artists, composers across the globe. Along with the fine, Rapidshare will also have to remove more than 5,000 tracks and make sure none of these are uploaded by users.
It appears that Facebook might have pushed itself a bit too much to help people in Iran as it released the Persian version of the social network. It appears that the present move has violated its own terms of use. The clause states that one cannot use Facebook if one is located in a country under embargo from the U.S or are in the list of U.S Treasury Department’s of Specially Designated Nationals. Although users in numerous countries that are under embargo can still access the network from those countries. I am not sure what action will be taken in this regard, but there is a very low probability that any action will taken against this and that Facebook will have to make a few changes to its terms of use as it continues its expansion across the globe.
Facebook had some serious problems with StudiVZ, the German social network that Facebook claimed to have copied its design. The battle had been going on for almost a year, beginning in August last year when we first reported it. However, Facebook has lost its case of charging StudiVZ for Intellectual property theft which it had filed in Germany. To tell you the truth, the only difference between the two is of color and language and StudiVZ appears more like a translated version of Facebook. What appeared to be more interesting were the remarks from made by the jury on lawyers who represented Facebook, calling them careless and resorting to wild guesses instead of providing proofs. Sounds harsh and most Facebook will feel the pinch of being far off when it comes to having users in the region. According to stats, StudiVZ has close to 13 million users, almost six times that of Facebook (which has 2 million approx).
If it’s about blocking adult sites or any other site entirely, I can consider it to be acceptable (both morally and with respect to a country’s policy or laws). But this latest one on Facebook being imposed in Indonesia, kills the very purpose of the social network. While almost everyone uses these social networks to stay connected with friends, everyone is a part of a bit of gossip, flirt, etc and to put a ban on these sounds ridiculous. It’s like driving a Ferrari at 30 MPH. I fully respect the decision coming from the Muslim clerics, who have tailored a few guidelines for the use of the Facebook and refraining from banning the site altogether. Of course the users in Indonesia who are big fans of the social network, making it the most popular site in the country will rejoice being given the permission to use it under vigilance.
