I haven’t used the Facebook Chat feature for God knows how long. Primarily because I found it absolutely garbage and secondly it was distracting. However the social network today has announced revamping the Chat feature on the social network; making it faster and more stable. Hope that it lives up to the promises.

But what makes the new more important is the fact that the social network has today officially killed support for Microsoft’s old war horse, the Internet Explorer 6. I am not sure if anything more sinister ever existed on or for the Web, but it is slowly being killed. With Facebook, this goes off on September 15, giving every user who might possibly be using the browser a chance to upgrade to a newer version. By the way I wonder how many folks still use the version?

Internet Explorer has all of a sudden got itself being bombarded with hostility as more people term the browser to be useless. To be honest, the browser has been in business for almost a decade and is still holds a major share in the browser market, but seriously the time has come for things to move ahead. Big names like YouTube have already ceased support for the aging browser and presently a group of startups have joined hands to show the Web that they are really tired of seeing the Papa IE6 around. The result as they anticipate will force users to make the essential switch to obliterate it. Google, Firefox, etc are Is there a bigger lobby out there working against IE6? Earlier this month YouTube ended its support for the Internet Explorer 6 and today it appears Twitter users want the IE6 to exist no more. James Lynch initiated the Twitition and it has already gained quite a momentum. Lunch used Twibbon, a service that lets you put up small icon on your profile picture. Many have termed the IE6 to be the biggest hindrance to the development of the Web and while they might be right, the same had given Microsoft the majority it has in the browser market and if sites end support for the browser, that share may fall drastically.
